Boundary Changes Are An Act Of Constitutional Vandalism That Will Disenfranchise And Fracture Communities
Aberavon MP, Stephen Kinnock, has warned that the changes to constituency boundaries will disenfranchise and fracture communities. Mr Kinnock was speaking in a debate in Parliament which looked to reverse the decision to reduce the number of MPs to 600.
Pat Glass MP’s Bill, which will now get a Second Reading after MPs overwhelmingly voted in support of the Bill, seeks to amend the legislation passed in 2011 which reduces the number of MPs from 650 to 600. The Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Act will see the number Welsh MPs cut from 40 to 29.Read more
Aberavon MP, Stephen Kinnock, has expressed his dismay at the Ministry of Justice’s decision not to grant Dic Penderyn a posthumous pardon. In July Mr Kinnock led a delegation which included descendants of Dic Penderyn and campaigners from Aberavon and Merthyr to present a petition calling for the Aberavon-born miner to be exonerated.Read more
Commenting on reports that Tata steel are rushing to close the British Steel Pension Scheme (BSPS) to avoid a £60m payment that is due into the scheme, Stephen Kinnock, Member of Parliament for Aberavon said:
“It is an absolute disgrace if these reports [that Tata are rushing to close the BSPS to avoid a £60m payment that is due] are true. Tata have not only legal, but also moral and social responsibilities to the members of the BSPS and the workforce across the UK.
