On a recent visit to Tarmac in Port Talbot, Stephen Kinnock saw how local work helps to deliver infrastructure projects across the UK. On the visit Stephen was given a guided tour of the plant where they extract slag from waste materials from the steelworks. They breakdown the waste materials from the blast furnace using high pressure water, they then turn the slag into aggregate which is used in asphalt, road construction and to make cement. On the visit the impact of Brexit on the business and the energy costs, were discussed.

Speaking after the visit, Stephen Kinnock said, ‘It is an impressive operation they have at Tarmac, turning the waste produce from the works into useful material that can be used in infrastructure projects across the UK. It is another great example of the manufacturing industry here in Port Talbot.
