Aberavon’s MP, Stephen Kinnock, joined youngsters at Eastern Primary for breakfast and exercise as part of the ‘Food and Fun’ programme being run over the school holidays.

After being put through his paces, Stephen Kinnock said, ‘This is an excellent programme, encouraging youngsters to eat healthy food and do lots of exercise.

‘The long school holidays can be a crunch point for low income families. Some children who benefit from free school breakfasts and lunches end up missing meals and going hungry during the summer holidays. Schemes like this one are tackling the problem and reducing the impact of poverty and social deprivation during the school holidays.

‘I thoroughly enjoyed my morning with the Taibach youngsters, who are enjoying scheme and revelled in putting me through my paces.’

Eastern Primary is one of 39 schools across 12 local authorities taking part. Other local schools taking part in the programme are Cymmer Afan School and Ysgol Bae Baglan. The ‘Food and Fun’ scheme is part of the Schools Enrichment Programme funded by the Welsh Government.
