I spent an enjoyable evening in Gwynfi Miners Hall watching the brave and moving film, made by Ciaran Gibbons, about firefighters in Palestine.

All firefighters are the epitome of courage, professionalism and dedication to public service. But the firefighters of the occupied territories of the West Bank are a special breed, as they don’t just  fight fire, they also have to cope with the constant challenges of the occupation.

In his moving, insightful and fearless film Ciaran Gibbons not only captures the spirit and passion of the brave men and women of the Palestinian fire brigade, he also paints a crystal clear picture of what life under the illegal occupation is like, for the people of the West Bank.

Ciaran’s film offers a fresh perspective on the past, present and possible futures of the conflict, seen not through the eyes of the politicians and commentators from whom we hear so much and so often, but rather through the eyes of a group of everyday heroes from whom we hear so little and so rarely – the firefighters under occupation.
