Aberavon’s MP, Stephen Kinnock, and AM, David Rees, have invited Celtic Leisure and Aberavon Swimming Club to meet at their offices to work out their differences concerning the provision of swimming lessons at the new Afan Lido.

Aberavon Swimming Club, which has operated in Port Talbot for the past 60 years and currently boasts 200 members, has recently expressed anger and concern at the news that Celtic Leisure would be taking over the provision of swimming lessons when the Afan Lido opens in the New Year.

Mr Kinnock and Mr Rees said, “We are keen to help Celtic Leisure and Aberavon Swimming Club find a workable solution for when the Afan Lido reopens. Aberavon Swimming Club provide a valuable service to their 200 members, most of whom are aged between 3 and 10, and they rely on the revenue they make from teaching to cover their insurance costs and contributions to Swim Wales. We hope both Celtic Leisure and Aberavon Swim Club will accept our invitation to meet at our offices and will return to the negotiating table to decide the best way forward for everyone.”
