Commenting on the conclusions of the Henry Review on Tidal Lagoons, Stephen Kinnock, the Member of Parliament for Aberavon, where the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon would be partly located, said:

“I am absolutely delighted that the Hendry review has come to a positive conclusion. The Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon will create thousands of jobs, heat thousands of homes with clean energy, and will put Swansea Bay at the cutting edge of this new technology that can be exported all over the world.

“This breakthrough project is excellent news our area, meeting 11% of Welsh energy needs, sustaining over 2,000 construction and manufacturing jobs in Wales, and saving almost a quarter of a million tonnes of carbon a year. It will also create substantial demand for steel and wider engineering services.

“The Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon is the pathfinder project for the tidal lagoon industry, and so it is imperative that the government moves swiftly to finalise negotiations with Tidal Lagoon Power. There is now no reason why we should not be moving to full implementation of this project by the spring.”
