It is devastating to see destruction of Khan Al-ahmar. Two years ago I visited and met many wonderful people doing their best to live in peace. It is time to recognise Palestine and to impose sanctions and cease all trade with the illegally occupied territories. I called on the Government to do this in Parliament.

Stephen Kinnock: I have also had the honour and privilege of visiting Khan al-Ahmar, where I met many wonderful people who were just trying to live in peace and do the best for their families and their community. Surely the time has now come for the British Government formally to recognise the state of Palestine. Surely the time has also come for us to impose sanctions and cease all trade with the illegally occupied territories.

Alistair Burt: I hear what the hon. Gentleman says. That is not the policy of the United Kingdom, for reasons that we have given before, but I have indicated that we are in consultation with European colleagues and considering what response there might be to these circumstances.
