One of the factors contributing to the perfect storm around the steel industry was the crippling energy costs. The Energy Intensive Industries Compensation scheme was introduced to help meet those costs. The scheme will come to an end in April 2017 and the Government committed in the 2016 Budget to introduce a set of exemptions from the Renewables Obligation and Feed-in-Tariff. We are still waiting for this.
