On a visit to the Steel and Metals Institute in Swansea University, Stephen Kinnock has hailed the work that they are doing to support and advance the steel industry. During the visit Mr Kinnock witnessed the work the Institute is doing with Tata Steel and SPECIFIC, looking at different uses for steel and developing the molecular structure of steel for new and exciting alternative uses.

The Institute blends academics, scientists and businesses, while brand-new research and testing facilities at the University’s new Bay Campus, will help strengthen this collaboration.

Speaking after the visit Mr Kinnock said, ‘It was a fascinating and inspiring visit to the Steel and Metals Institute. It’s a hotbed of research, development and innovation, taking the steel industry forward in the 21st century.

‘As a 21st century industry, steel is highly-skill and high-tech. Collaboration is crucial in taking the industry forward, that is why the Institute is a fantastic asset to the steel sector.’
