Congratulations to two fantastic sports teams in our Aberavon constituency who have secured vital The National Lottery Community Fund support.

Port Talbot Panthers Rugby and Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC have together received more than £13,000 for two amazing community projects.

Port Talbot Panthers Mixed Ability Team (pictured above) will deliver healthy living and emotional health and well-being sessions to beneficiaries of their mixed ability rugby team while Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC will raise awareness and understanding of the issues experienced by people living with dementia through a marketing and training programme.

Panthers founder Andrew Harris said: “The funding we applied for is to help set up projects in the new year when restrictions allow to improve mental health as well as emotional health and well-being of our players but also for people in the wider community.”

Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC general manager Stuart Williams (pictured above with Anita Tomaszewski of MMI, a Briton Ferry based charity supporting people and families living with dementia) said: “We are delighted to have secured the The National Lottery Community Fund funding to ensure the project can be delivered over the next 12 months.

“The funding will allow over 40 volunteers at the club to access dementia awareness training as well as new signage that would help people living with dementia when they visit the facility.”
