Today, I made a speech in
Westminster at the Welsh Grand
Committee that considered
strengthening the Union as it relates to
Wales. I reminded the Tory benches that
when the UK Government ran short on
lateral flow tests, the Welsh
Government came to its aid: “That is
how cooperation should work within the
union…the relationship between the
four governments should be based on a
partnership of equals.” My speech also
highlighted how acting in the national
interest is the polar opposite of
nationalism. Welsh Labour’s patriotism
is rooted in our commitment to
resilience, prosperity and security – and
there is no doubt that Wales and the
other UK nations thrive when we pool
our resources.
