I was quoted in an article in The Observer today (Sunday June 20) on the importance of crucial steel safeguards being maintained to protect the industry which employs thousands of people in the Aberavon constituency.

If the Conservative government fails to vote with Labour on steel safeguards tomorrow (Monday June 21) they will effectively be opening the door to import surges and dismantling our flood defences before the tidal wave is about to hit.

Either the government votes with Labour to bring forward the emergency legislation that can amend mistakes in the Trade Bill, or it votes against and in so doing exposes the true intention of its post-Brexit trade policy: to sacrifice British jobs and manufacturing on the altar of its desperation to do trade deals.

Last week they sold out our farmers. Will our steelworkers be next?
