This month Community union is sharing the stories of inspirational young members as part of it’s Young Workers Month programme.

Here in Aberavon we are fortunate to have highly skilled young members such as Hannah Rogers (pictured above) who, at the age of 22, is the union’s youngest branch secretary and represents the technical laboratories branch at Tata Steel UK in PortTalbot.

Hannah joined Tata as a teenager and started an apprenticeship as it allowed her to achieve a qualification while gaining hands-on experience.

She said: “I became a union representative as I believe it is important that young workers have an input into everyday discussions.

“Working at Tata Steel I have been able to gain knowledge and experience from my union rep colleagues as well as attend union rep training.

“As the future of the workforce, I believe it is important to have representation of young members in the workplace.

“Young Workers Month is a chance to highlight issues and to demonstrate the value that we bring to the movement.”
