I joined Welsh Economy Minister Vaughan Gething, David Rees Member of the Senedd for Aberavon and local Baglan businesses – Crossflow Energy and Sofidel – to celebrate the team effort which ensured that the power supply will stay on in Baglan Energy Park – saving dozens of businesses and hundreds of jobs.

The liquidation of Calon Energy meant that businesses faced a future without power, but legal action and financial support by the Welsh Labour Government kept the lights on until an alternative source of power could be commissioned and connected to the national grid.

It took a lot of pressure and lobbying of the UK Government to ensure that ministers were fully aware of the disastrous impact that the cutting off of the power supply would have, but we got there in the end.

And we certainly would not be where we are today without the crucial interventions by the Welsh Government, which prevented the Official Receiver
from taking completely unreasonable action.

This is another great example of what Team Labour in Cardiff Bay and Westminster can achieve, working together for the people of Wales.
