As the UK Government prepares to open trade negotiations with the United States, I challenged the Government to stand up for steelworkers and the steel industry by exempting them from the deeply damaging tariffs that have been imposed by President Trump. The Secretary of State said she would remove the tariffs, I along with steelworkers and the industry will be watching to ensure she sticks to her promise!

Stephen Kinnock: The section 232 tariffs imposed by President Trump have had a deeply damaging impact on our steel industry, leading to a 30% drop in UK steel exports to the US. Does the Secretary of State agree that all trade talks with the US should be suspended until such time as our steel industry has been exempted from these completely unacceptable and protectionist tariffs?

Elizabeth Truss: I want to get the trade talks started so that I can get those tariffs removed.
